As I write this commentary in September, 2016, social media is commenting about the
Great Fire of London. And in their efforts for us to revisit that catastrophe, I am reminded of the
diarist Samuel Pepys. His commentary, not only of the Great Fire of London, but of life in his
era, is an inspiration for all of us to write, comment, and ponder the affairs of our era. By
indexing my personal journal, I am setting the stage for a written commentary, which may or
may not ever be published. But in this index, and in finding a permanent home in Google books,
a moment in history is preserved. This will, pray, be the first of many.
